Introducing: SPECK!

He’s a week old now and fantastic in a thousand ways.

Less Than a Day

Checking in! Speck has decided that contracting every thirty minutes is enough for him for now. Don’t want to rush things.

It’s making his momma absolutely apeshit, but he’s happy as a clam. We called the doctor last night and they won’t go in and get him unless I’m in active labor, so I guess I get to go through all the pre-stuff. We’re keeping an eye on things and trying to destract me. The house is clean, the laundry is done, the bag is packed… All that’s left to do today is paint my nails and periodically go into a blind panic.

I called my best friend this morning to whine to her and she reminded me that I saved all my wedding freak out for the night before my wedding, so why not the day before the baby arrives?

It looks like he might last until tomorrow, but just now it feels like a close race. He’s very very low and moving a lot, and when I contract I can feel the muscle pulling up and back. We just haven’t hit anything regular yet.

I’ll let you know how it goes!

24 Hours To Tulsa

Quick check in -

The Non Stress Test today was great. Speck is just chilling out. They found two contractions on the test and tonight I’ve had more serious contractions every fifteen minutes. So with less than 48 hours until an eviction, Speck may have decided to keep his own schedule.

Pretty exciting stuff!

Tonight I re-pack the hospital bag from a labor bag to a cesarean bag, keeping in mind that we’re going to be at the hospital for quite a few days.

Pretty darned exciting.

Quick Check In

Quick check in:

I did an 8 hour clean today, so the house is ready to bring the boy home! EEe!

We had an argument with the nieghbors about their new puppy. They’ve had him for weeks and as far as we can tell their policy for dealing with his neverending barking is to stick him outside where he can make the rest of the neighborhood miserable. The wife pointed out that she didn’t want that barking IN THE HOUSE. What she fails to realize is that by sticking him in the back yard she puts it in everyone else’s house. Puppies will bark, but when I can look out my back windows without being howled at by two dogs, that’s a little too much.

We got our 18 inch dishwasher today, but it’s busted. $300 and it’s busted. We’ll deal. It’ll be okay. If we eat $300 worse things happen at sea.

We go in to the doctor tomorrow and get a look at the boy and get our orders for the c-section. It’s incrediby nerve wracking and incredibly exciting.

Three days till Speck!!

These Are a Few of My Favorite Things: 7 Days ‘Till Speck

Popping on quickly while the temp-in-training is out to say YAY! Today is my last day at work. I woke up this morning and felt like I’d been kicked in the gut by a horse. It’s well past time I was finished.

The temp I’m training is smart and interesting to talk to and a very quick study. All of which is making my job of training her very easy. The only problem is that she’s sitting at my desk and cutting into my surfing time.

Bastard!

Not really.

I think I’m going to try and buy something yummy to have at my desk for everyone after lunch. A sort of a “see you suckers!” final hurrah.

I also heard a rumor that Chihuahua boss is quitting. I can’t believe it. If it’s true, my universe is made. Just made.

I’ll write more soon, because as of 5pm today I’m off work and have oodles of time. Hooray!

An Auspicious Date

We went in today and, as expected, Speck was still head-up. He’s healthy and passed his Non-Stress Test with flying colors. We have set the eviction date for September 10, 2004. It’s not the 9th, but it’s close enough that we don’t even care. We’ll be the third couple being sectioned that day, so he’ll probably come screaming into the world some time in the early afternoon.

I’m astonished. And nervous. And delighted. And have many other responses that begin with a capital letter and end with a period.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that he can’t decide to come out before then on his own. Today they think they may have seen a small contraction on the monitor, and I have been feeling oogy since last night, so it could be something. Or more of nothing.

Friday is my last day at work, thank God. This weekend is going to be “gettin’ ready for baby!” weekend. There will be cleaning. Oh, there will be cleaning.

9/10/04

It’s a good day to be born.
